Residents of Cairns are being urged to get rid of mosquitoes, after a resident in the area tested positive to Zika virus. The resident had recently returned for overseas however as a precaution residents should kill all mosquitoes they come across and ensure their homes aren’t conducive to mosquito breeding. That includes getting rid of any standing or stagnant water.
Recently the Dengue Action Response Team has been spraying the area around the resident’s home to stop the spread of the mosquito-borne disease linked to severe birth defects.
It would also be a good idea to ensure your windows and doors are covered with insect screens to minimise the risk of mosquitoes entering your home.
