According to a post on TheConversation.com mosquito bites not only make our lives miserable during certain months but also present a health risk.
The post highlights a suspected link between mosquito bites and increasing incidents of the mysterious “Buruli ulcers”.
Victorian authorities are apparently on high alert due to The Buruli ulcer, also known locally as the “Bairnsdale ulcer”, caused by the environmental pathogen Mycobacterium ulcerans.
Although it is found mostly in Africa, there have been many Australian cases reported.
There are fears the spread may be linked to insect bites.
