Rare Insect Species Escapes Extinction

While this may look like a common stick insect to the untrained eye, these are actually precious Lord Howe Island stick insects, once thought to be extinct.

These insects will be heading overseas as part of a captive breeding program to improve the numbers of these insects and increase their chances of survival.

These insects are currently being bred at The Melbourne zoo but soon eggs will be making their way to zoos around the world including in Bristol, Toronto and San Diego.
