An amazing new large-scale international study have revealed that the largest overland migration on earth involves insects and not birds as we’ve thought all these years.
The study revealed that 5.3trillion migratory insects in the UK alone that travel south annually to Africa make up a biomass of nearly eight times that of migrating birds.
There are fears that global warming will impact the number of migrating insect and impair many ecosystems.
The study showed that in the fall insect populations migrated south while in spring there was movement north. The scope of the insect migration came as a great surprise to researchers.So what does this new evidence mean to us?
