Summer is here and the rise in the insect population is no surprise. It’s important we start preparing for the influx of bugs that will descend upon our homes over the summer season and according to the Bureau of Meteorology temperatures will be higher than ever this year, which will correspond with a rise in insect activity.
Rainfall, the availability of food sources and increasing temperatures all contribute the rise in insect populations – insects which are ectothermic/ cold-blooded, increase activity in summer.
As most insect species emerge from a resting phase in winter to begin an active adult life in spring and summer, they tend to interact more, this gives rise to their population.
As always its crucial that we prepare our families and our homes by having our windows and doors covered with insect screens.
