Who We Are and Where We Work

Kevin Burnside, Founder of Intelliscreens.
My name is Kevin, and I started Intelliscreens because I kept seeing the same problem across South East Queensland: homeowners with beautiful outdoor spaces they couldn’t use properly for half the year. A covered alfresco sitting empty through summer. A mossie-buzzing verandah abandoned by dusk. A canal-front home where the view was framed by a sliding door that had to stay shut because of the midges. The solution, done properly with the right product for the right environment, isn’t complicated. But finding a supplier who understood the local conditions, knew their product, and stood behind their work was harder than it should have been. That’s the gap Intelliscreens was built to fill.
We now service one of the largest geographic footprints of any retractable screen specialist in the region. From Byron Bay in the south to Noosa in the north, across Greater Brisbane and out to Ipswich, and through the full length of the Gold Coast and its hinterland, we carry our product and our installation expertise to homes across the full breadth of South East Queensland and Northern New South Wales.
The Conditions We Build For
This region is not one climate. It’s a dozen, and the difference between them matters when you’re choosing a screen that’s expected to perform for a decade or more.
On the coast, from Byron Bay north through the Gold Coast and up to Noosa, salt air is the primary enemy of inferior components. Aluminium frames, mesh fibres, and hardware that aren’t specified for a marine environment will corrode, stiffen, and fail well before their time. Our screens use marine-grade components throughout for coastal installations, and the mesh we specify near the water accounts for midge pressure, those fine sand flies that a standard mesh simply won’t stop.
Inland, the climate challenge shifts. The canal suburbs of Brisbane and the Gold Coast, the established family areas of Ipswich, and the hinterland valleys from the Scenic Rim to the Sunshine Coast hinterland all carry significant mosquito pressure through the warmer months. Retention ponds, creek lines, river systems, and remnant vegetation all contribute. The screen that works on a Mermaid Beach beachfront property is not necessarily the right screen for a Tamborine Mountain verandah or an Ipswich backyard, and getting that specification right is part of what we do before we quote.
In Brisbane’s inner suburbs, the equation changes again. Character homes in Paddington, Ascot, New Farm, and Highgate Hill carry architectural details that need to be respected. Reveal-fit installations, colour matching to heritage palettes, and sympathetic French door solutions are as much a part of the job as the technical screening performance.
What We Install and Why It Matters
Our core product is a pleated retractable fly screen, Australian designed and manufactured, and compatible with the full range of door configurations we encounter across this service area. That includes:
Bifold doors: The folding panel stack creates a specific installation challenge that a poorly specified screen will catch and foul against. Our screens retract cleanly, every time.
Stacker doors: Wide stacker openings, common in contemporary Queensland homes, are best served by a single-span screen rather than a two-panel arrangement with a centre post. We can cover openings up to 5.0 metres in a single span, keeping the view and the opening clean.
Sliding doors: The most common configuration across the region. Track quality and mesh tension are the long-term performance factors, and both need to be right for daily family use.
French doors: Particularly relevant in Brisbane’s heritage suburbs and in older hinterland and regional homes. A reveal-fit installation preserves the architectural character of the door without compromising function.
All our screens are UV-stabilised, built specifically for the intensity of the subtropical Queensland sun, and backed by a 5-year limited warranty. We design, manufacture, and install every screen ourselves. There is no handoff to a subcontractor who doesn’t know the product.

Service Area FAQs
Do you install retractable fly screens throughout the Gold Coast?
We service many Gold Coast suburbs from Ormeau and Coomera through to Coolangatta, as well as selected hinterland locations. Contact us with your suburb and project details so we can confirm availability.
Which Gold Coast suburbs do you commonly service?
Common locations include Pimpama, Coomera, Helensvale, Hope Island, Southport, Surfers Paradise, Broadbeach, Varsity Lakes, Burleigh Heads, Palm Beach, Currumbin, Tugun and Coolangatta, among others.
Can you screen large or unusual door openings?
Yes. We regularly discuss solutions for French doors, bi-fold doors, sliding and stacker doors, pillarless corners and other wide openings. The right configuration depends on the dimensions and how the opening is used.
Do coastal or waterway homes need special consideration?
They can. Salt air, humidity, midges and mosquitoes may influence the mesh and hardware options. We can discuss the conditions at your property during the measure and quote process.
Do you service locations outside the Gold Coast?
Yes, we also service selected areas across Brisbane, the Sunshine Coast, Ipswich, the Scenic Rim and Northern Rivers NSW. Coverage varies by location, so please ask us to confirm your suburb.
